KG ASL-Analytik Service Labor GmbH & Co. is the analytical laboratory of Borgwaldt Flavor. It is located in the R&D laboratories of Borgwaldt Flavor and basically run by four Borgwaldt flavor employees. Under the name “ASL”, tobacco related analytical services are offered and carried out for customers worldwide.
On the one hand ASL benefits from the customer relations of the Borgwaldt group and the technical support of Borgwaldt KC, on the other hand the ASL products very well complement the overall service of the whole group. Borgwaldt KC can benefit from the practical experience and activities concerning Borgwaldt KC apparatus, Borgwaldt Flavor developments are supported by blend analyses and testing of final products. The past proved that customers appreciate this unique combination of services.
Since the year 2002 ASL is accredited according to ISO 17025 for ISO smoke analyses and an EU approved testing lab. This status has laid the basis for ASL to become the main independent testing lab for several European affiliates of major tobacco companies and made the ISO smoke analyses the core business of ASL. Due to this fortunate situation and the fact that ASL has acquired a good reputation, also among authorities, ASL has tripled the turnover within the last five years.
Apart from smoke analyses, ASL offers a wide range of, mainly tobacco related, chemical and physical tests and very often finds tailor made solutions for special tasks like smoking of electronic cigarettes, shisha smoking or unusual customer requests.
The challenge for ASL, just as for any other company, is to adapt to new situations in future. Right now, ASL is preparing to offer LIP tests, which will be compulsory in the EU from 2011. Further possibilities to extend the scope of analyses could be special analytes in cigarette smoke or certain parameters in alternative products, such as electronic cigarettes or smokeless tobacco products.
