Borgwaldt KC supports North Carolina Laboratories

01.02.2012

It is not news USA manufacturers have to adhere to the criteria laid out by the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) based on the “The Family Smoking Prevention and Tobacco Act”. How they are accomplishing this however, is significant.

Among the criteria is reporting constituents based on a list the FDA believes as “harmful or potentially harmful” to public health.  Producing such information would require a considerable investment in research, equipment, people, and most importantly time.  Two North Carolina laboratories are making this decision for manufacturers very simple.  Microbac Laboratories Inc. (www.microbac.com) and Global Laboratory Services Inc. (www.globallaboratory.com) have recently expanded their services for finished product analysis, including the collection of smoke constituents.

Established for over 50 years, Global Laboratory Services (GLS) long term commitment to the tobacco industry makes its expansion into smoke constituent analysis a natural progression of the services it provides globally.  Incorporating this new analytical service into the Wilson facility that is already ISO 17025 accredited and soon to be GMP (Good Manufacturing Practices) compliant, Borgwaldt KC’s LX, OMI, and RM instrument ranges will play a key role in GLS delivering FDA compliance testing.   “Global Laboratory’s purchase of Borgwaldt KC smoking machines expands our capacity to provide quality analytical services.” said Dr. Andrae Spencer, President of GLS.

Microbac’s investment in tobacco product analysis adds to their already established pharmaceutical, dietary supplements, cosmetic and agrochemical residues capabilities.  Incorporating this new analytical service into Microbac facility that is already FDA-registered and GMP compliant for the above services, Borgwaldt KC’s LX and OMI ranges of instrumentation will play a key role in Microbac adding FDA tobacco compliance to that list.  “We conducted a careful examination of the instrumentation presently available and concluded that Borgwaldt KC was market leading” added Dr. Richard Higby, Managing Director of Microbac’s Wilson Division.

“We are very excited to be part of the expansion of these two laboratories.  The selection of Borgwaldt KC equipment endorses the investments Borgwaldt KC has made in its development of new products and service” said Michael Connor, President of the Richmond VA division of the Borgwaldt KC group.  Over the past decade, Borgwaldt KC has seen a dramatic evolution in the needs of our customers. In order to meet those needs, we have launched new product lines and innovated existing products. These changes have transformed Borgwaldt KC into a leading global provider of essential products and services in tobacco product inspection.  Borgwaldt KC’s multiple manufacturing and development locations have provided an unrivalled flexibility for supply and support to its customers.
